Meet The Owner
My Story
My name is Derek Jones, owner of On Scene Home Watch. I grew up in Southwest Florida, and today my wife and I are raising our family in the same community I have spent nearly two decades serving as a professional firefighter.
My fire-service career has taught me to remain calm under pressure, pay close attention to details and recognize developing problems before they become larger emergencies. As a fire lieutenant, I understand the importance of following a consistent process, documenting what I observe and communicating quickly and clearly. Those same principles guide every Home Watch visit I perform.
I am also a certified Hazardous Materials Technician. This specialized training helps me recognize warning signs associated with fuel, propane, pool chemicals, unusual odors, leaks and other potentially hazardous conditions. While On Scene Home Watch does not perform environmental testing or remediation, my experience allows me to identify concerns quickly, notify the homeowner and help coordinate the appropriate qualified professional.
In addition, I am a certified boat captain and a member of my department’s Marine Team. That experience is especially valuable for waterfront homeowners. I understand the unique concerns associated with docks, seawalls, boat lifts, shore power and vessels left unattended. If a marine-related issue is observed or a service needs to be completed, I know what to look for and who to contact to help get the situation addressed properly.
On Scene Home Watch was created to provide seasonal and absentee homeowners with a dependable local point of contact; not simply another name on a customer list. When you entrust me with your property, you receive the same professionalism, attention to detail and sense of responsibility that I bring to the fire service every day.
